Menu design, custom iconography, and leather menu covers for Mister A’s, one of San Diego’s most iconic dining destinations.
Mister A’s has been a San Diego dining landmark for decades, known for its elevated fine dining experience and sweeping views of the city skyline. The goal was to create a menu design system that felt refined enough for the restaurant while still bringing in a distinctive visual personality.
The menu experience begins before a guest ever opens it. Custom blue leather menu covers were designed to complement the restaurant’s atmosphere, featuring the Mister A’s monogram as a subtle branded detail. The material and finish give the menus a more tactile, elevated presence at the table.
The visual system draws inspiration from the Mister A’s experience itself. Perched high above San Diego, the restaurant is known for panoramic skyline views and the unforgettable sight of airplanes passing nearby on their approach into the city. Custom line illustrations bring those familiar details into the menu in a simple, unexpected way.
A custom icon system was developed around the rituals of dining at Mister A’s, from cocktails and wine to service and celebration. The illustrations share a consistent line weight and geometric construction, allowing them to work individually or combine into larger compositions throughout the menu system.
The icon library expands across food, service, table settings, and special occasions, giving the menu design a flexible visual language beyond traditional typography. Each illustration was kept intentionally minimal so the system could feel sophisticated while still adding moments of personality throughout the dining experience.
The finished Mister A’s menu system brings typography, custom iconography, illustration, color, and material together into one cohesive restaurant experience. From the leather covers to the individual menu pages, every element was designed to feel distinctly Mister A’s while remaining clear, functional, and adaptable as the menu changes.
